The consumption figures are volume figures. This means they have been adjusted for price changes. Additionally, adjustments have also been made for changes in the composition of shopping days. According to the CBS Consumption Radar, the conditions for consumption in August were slightly less favorable than in July.
Consumers purchased 3,7 percent more sustainable goods in July than in July 2024. They bought more shoes, clothing, and electrical appliances. Households also purchased more passenger cars. On food and luxury items, households spent 0.1 percent less, adjusted for price changes, than in July 2024. Finally, households consumed the same amount of other goods (energy, motor fuels, and personal care products) in July.
Consumers took 1.1 percent more services in July. They spent, adjusted for price changes, especially more on transportation and communication, recreation and culture, and in the hospitality sector than in July 2024. Expenditures on services account for more than half of total domestic consumption expenditures by households.
The CBS publishes monthly about the conditions for consumption in the consumption radar. Household consumption is related to consumer expectations, the labor market situation, and the development of their wealth. The indicators in the radar correlate well with household consumption, but an improvement in conditions does not necessarily mean higher growth in consumption.
According to the consumption radar for August, the conditions for consumption in August were slightly less favorable than in July.
