Retail Trade Increases by Almost 2 Percent in February

The retail trade achieved a turnover increase of 1.6 percent in February compared to February 2024, reports CBS. However, the sales volume was 0.9 percent lower. The turnover of non-food (including non-store retail) grew by 1.7 percent and the food sector (stores in food and beverages) by 1.5 percent. Online sales increased by 3.8 percent compared to a year earlier.

The turnover figures are adjusted for the composition of shopping days in February. More is sold on some days of the week than on others. Without this correction, retail turnover was 0.5 percent lower than in February 2024.

Turnover in non-food increased by almost 2 percent. Drugstores and stores in recreational articles achieved higher sales in February 2025 compared to February 2024. However, stores in DIY articles (including kitchens and floors), clothing stores, shoe and leather goods stores, furniture and home furnishing stores, and consumer electronics stores achieved lower sales.

Food turnover 1.5 percent higher

Stores in food and beverages achieved 1.5 percent more turnover in February compared to February 2024. The sales volume was 3.6 percent lower than a year earlier. Supermarkets turnover was 1.2 percent higher, and specialty stores turnover was 3.6 percent higher.

Online sales increased by almost 4 percent

Online sales were 3.8 percent higher in February compared to February 2024. Webshops (with internet sales as their main activity) achieved 6.9 percent more turnover. The online turnover of stores where internet sales is a secondary activity (multichannelers) was 1.4 percent lower.

The online turnover of stores in food and drugstores, consumer electronics stores, and other non-food stores was higher in February 2025 compared to February 2024. The online turnover of clothing stores was lower than a year earlier.
