The gross yield of wheat in 2024 was 682,000 tons, which is 38.6% lower than the previous year. This marks the lowest gross yield in 25 years. The gross yield of consumption potatoes also decreased by 1.5%. In contrast, seed onions saw an increase of 13.2%, while barley increased by 3.8%. This is evident from the final harvest estimate of CBS.

The gross yield of wheat has not been this low since 2000, mainly due to disappointing harvest figures from winter wheat caused by a wet autumn in 2023. In 2024, only 574,000 tons of winter wheat were harvested, a decrease of 45.9% compared to the previous year. Both the area planted and the yield per hectare have decreased in the past year.

The gross yield of summer wheat more than doubled to 108,000 tons, primarily due to an increase in area planted. In years when the area of winter wheat decreases, the area of summer wheat often increases. However, the increase in summer wheat area does not compensate for the reduction in winter wheat area. In all regions, wheat yields decreased, with the largest decline in southern Netherlands.
