MBO graduates of non-European origin find work less often after graduation compared to the average among all MBO graduates. They also have to apply more often for an internship or work placement. This is reported by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) in the Inclusive Labor Market Report 2025.

People of non-European origin include both migrants (born outside Europe) and the second generation (born in the Netherlands with one or two parents born outside Europe). Among the MBO graduates who graduated in the 2021/’22 school year, 82 percent of non-European migrants had a job a year later, while 85 percent of the non-European second generation did. On average, 92 percent of all MBO graduates had a job within a year.

From 2007/’08 to 2021/’22, the percentage of MBO graduates of non-European origin who had a job after a year was lower than average. The difference compared to the average was largest around 2012/13, during the economic recession.
