In the first half of 2025, the Veilig Thuis organizations received 66 thousand reports of (suspected) child abuse and/or domestic violence. Additionally, they gave advice 85 thousand times to victims, bystanders, or professionals. This is about 10 percent more reports and 28 percent more advice than in the first half of 2022. This is according to preliminary figures from Veilig Thuis and Statistics Netherlands (CBS).
Veilig Thuis is the national advice and reporting center for (suspected) child abuse and domestic violence. They provide callers with instructions and tips to take further action themselves in cases of (suspected) domestic violence and/or child abuse. If this is not possible, or if the situation is too complicated or serious, the caller can make a report and Veilig Thuis takes action. They establish the conditions for a safe situation and, if necessary, arrange follow-up help. Veilig Thuis is then responsible for monitoring the safety of those directly involved.

10 thousand more advice cases

In the first half of 2025, Veilig Thuis gave 85 thousand pieces of advice, compared to 75 thousand a year earlier. The reason for the increase in advice requests has not been investigated.
