SMEs More Often Granted Requested Financing
In 2025, fewer SMEs needed new external financing, but those seeking it were more often granted it. Female entrepreneurs apply for financing less frequently than males.
In 2025, fewer small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) needed new external financing. However, companies that required financing were more often successful in obtaining it. Female entrepreneurs lag behind male entrepreneurs in obtaining financing, mainly because they apply less frequently. This is reported by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) based on the Financing Monitor. Of the companies surveyed, 15 percent needed new external financing, such as a bank loan. Of the companies that took further steps, 55 percent actually obtained new financing in 2025. In 2019, more companies needed financing, but a smaller portion successfully completed the search (51 percent).
