Tensions, disruptions, or policy changes in foreign markets can impact the Dutch economy. In March 2025, 13 percent of companies indicated that they have already adjusted their business strategy accordingly. Another over 8 percent plan to do so. Most companies (47 percent) were not engaged in this and do not plan to. Nearly a third of companies only have domestic activities.
Companies in the industry (33 percent) and transport and storage (30 percent) most frequently reported having adjusted their business strategy or planning to do so due to developments in their foreign markets. Within the industry, companies in the transport equipment industry (46 percent), electrical engineering and machine industry (45 percent), and metal industry (36 percent) are most often engaged in this.
Also in business services and other services, companies are relatively often engaged in their strategy due to developments in foreign markets. This primarily concerns companies in research, architecture and engineering firms, advertising and design, and the repair of consumer goods.
