In 2024, 6 percent of women had no income from work or benefits and were not attending any education. Ten years earlier, that was still 10 percent. Women without their own income are generally older, more often married, and have children more frequently than women with income. This is reported by Statistics Netherlands (CBS).

The number of non-education-following women between 15 years and the AOW age without their own income decreased from 481 thousand in 2013 to 321 thousand in 2023. Among men, the percentage without income is much lower at about 2 percent, and fairly stable.
