In 2022, only 0.7% of agricultural households were poor. This is lower than the average for all Dutch households (4.0%) and households of self-employed entrepreneurs (3.3%). The percentage of agricultural households experiencing poverty has not changed much in recent years. These findings are based on new poverty measurement methods developed by CBS in collaboration with the National Institute for Budget Information (Nibud) and the Social and Cultural Planning Office (SCP).

In 2022, 400 out of 56,000 agricultural households were poor. Poverty is not necessarily permanent. To determine long-term poverty, we look at the last three years. In 2022, 0.1% of agricultural households were poor for the last three years. Long-term poverty among agricultural households was lower than that of an average Dutch household (1.5%) and also lower than that of households of self-employed entrepreneurs (0.9%).
