What is it like to work in a prison? Do inmates all wear the same clothes? Do you also encounter prisoners? These are just some questions that many DJI employees get asked when they talk about where they work at birthdays or gatherings. In the new podcast Bajespraat, prison directors Frank de Graaf and Richard Baas share more about life in prison.

In a five-part series, released weekly, Frank de Graaf and Richard Baas engage in conversation with prominent guests who have some connection to the prison system; from crime journalists to lawyers. They also ask the guest about his or her work.

DJI believes it is important to communicate openly and transparently. A podcast is an ideal medium to place matters in context. De Graaf and Baas take their time with the studio guest to discuss often complex themes such as safety, violence, care, and capacity pressure.

Frank de Graaf is the site director of PI Krimpen a/d IJssel and Richard Baas is the site director of PI Rotterdam. “We want to share more about our work in an accessible way. And more than that, actually. Each episode features a different guest at the table, often linked to the prison system, whom we also question about his or her work. This creates a beautiful interaction,” says Frank de Graaf.

“We discuss serious topics, but we do so in a relaxed manner and certainly also with room for some humor,” adds Richard Baas.

The podcast Bajespraat (season 1) will be available weekly from Friday, September 26, on all free platforms that offer podcasts; including Spotify.
