Last year, the Repatriation and Departure Service (DTenV) supported 945 Syrians in their voluntary return to Syria. Additionally, DTenV is still processing the departure of 440 Syrians who registered at the end of 2025 for the temporary scheme for increased return support. This scheme resulted in a total of 660 applications.
Since the fall of Assad in early 2025, there have been increasing requests from Syrians seeking help to return to their homeland. During the year, the level of financial support they could receive varied.
Until June 10, 2025, Syrians were eligible for a support amount of €900 per person in cash. After that, a new country-specific asylum policy for Syria came into effect, and the regular amounts for return support of €2,800 per adult and €1,650 per minor family member applied. From November 17 to December 31, 2025, Syrians could register for a special return scheme with an increased return support amount of €5,000 per adult and €2,500 per minor family member.
From January 1, 2026, Syrians are again eligible for return support according to the regular amounts upon registration.
