Research by the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT) shows that many online mouse and rat control products for professional use do not comply with regulations. A significant 65.5% of online offerings checked do not meet the standards. The ILT monitors compliance with the Biocides Regulation and the Plant Protection Products and Biocides Act.
The ILT analyzed 145 Dutch web pages offering a total of 26 different pest control products (biocides). In 57% of cases, the mandatory safety warning was missing. In 9.7%, products intended only for professionals were offered to consumers.
The ILT contacted 6 companies offering prohibited pest control products. Three have ceased their illegal sales, while the other three received an official warning. Additionally, 89 companies received an informational email about the applicable rules.
The ILT oversees the sale of biocides to protect society and promote a fair market. European legislation facilitates collaboration with foreign regulators. Foreign webshops and companies pose additional risks and unfair competition to Dutch providers who do comply with the rules.
