Edwin van Houten will become director of Supervision and Enforcement (TenO) and deputy Inspector-General (IG) at the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT) as of January 1, 2026.
Edwin looks forward to rolling up his sleeves together with all colleagues of the ILT and external partners for a safe and sustainable Netherlands. As supervisors, we guard collective values, work on trust in society, and try to prevent damage through information, enforcement, and enforcement when necessary. Meaningful work.
As director of TenO, Edwin leads approximately 800 colleagues of the ILT who work in supervision and enforcement to create a safer and more sustainable Netherlands and protect people and the environment. A task for the director of TenO is the further development of effectiveness as a supervisor and environmental enforcement service.
The director of TenO also guides the further development of criminal enforcement, under the authority of the Public Prosecution Service. There is a major task in strengthening the criminal justice chain, with police and environmental services. In addition, Edwin replaces the Inspector-General as deputy Inspector-General during absences.
‘Experienced and people-oriented leader’
Mattheus Wassenaar, Inspector-General of the ILT, says about this appointment: I have come to know Edwin as a driven, balanced, people-oriented, and curious leader. With Edwin’s extensive experience in supervision and the energy and enthusiasm he has to work on the further development of our organization, he fits very well with the task we as ILT face in the coming years. I look forward to a great collaboration in the IG team and with the organization.
Career
Since 2019, Edwin has been director of Consumers at the Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM). Before that, he worked among others as a manager at the Health and Youth Care Inspectorate (IGJ) and at the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND). Edwin studied cultural anthropology in Nijmegen.
