September 30, 2025

The month of September will go down in history as a sunny month with a normal amount of precipitation. Last month was the seventh consecutive month that was warmer than the long-term average. September had an average temperature of 15.1 °C (long-term average of 14.7 °C).

It was sunny and dry on September 6 and 7. With a southerly wind, the temperature rose significantly. In the southern part of the country, it became locally tropical warm on September 7. The warmest was in Westdorpe at 30.7°C, the highest temperature this month. However, there was a lot of wind that day.

Also, on September 19 and 20, summer showed itself. A high-pressure area over southern Europe brought warm air towards the Netherlands. The temperature rose in the central and southern parts of the country to above 25°C. In Eindhoven, it was warmest on September 19: 28.3°C. On September 20, the warmth was displaced from the west by thunderstorms. The dreariest day of the month was September 17, when the sun hardly showed itself or only briefly.

From September 21, it cooled down significantly, especially at night. On September 23, it was 2.1°C at the KNMI weather station Twenthe, the lowest temperature this month.

Precipitation

Although the nationally average amount of precipitation in September (75 mm) was virtually equal to the long-term average (73 mm), the differences in the country were quite large. In the southwest of the Netherlands, it was much drier than usual, with only 37 mm measured at both the KNMI station in Vlissingen and Rotterdam. While in the northwestern coastal area, around the Veluwe and in the Twente region, it was wetter than usual. With 115 mm measured in Terschelling (long-term average 86 mm).
