His Majesty the King has appointed Mr. M.J.A. (Marcel) Hielkema as his new chamber lord in the province of Gelderland, effective July 1, 2025. He succeeds Dr. D.H.J. (Daniël) Wigboldus, who has held the position since 2019 and has been the commissioner of the King in the province of Gelderland since March 19, 2025. Effective October 1, 2025, the King has appointed Mr. Drs. D.E.J.W.H.M. (Diederik) Baron de Loë as his new chamber lord in the province of Limburg. Mr. De Loë succeeds Mr. Dr. J.J. (Jan) Schrijen, who has held this position since 2008.
Mr. Hielkema has been a partner at the consultancy KplusV this year. Additionally, he is active in the province of Gelderland as chairman of Connectr Energy Innovation, chairman of the supervisory board of Introdans, and commissioner at the National Sports Center Papendal. Mr. Hielkema worked for many years in international hospitality and business services after studying at the Hotelschool The Hague.
Mr. De Loë studied business economics at Erasmus University Rotterdam and then worked in the private sector both domestically and internationally. He worked for Océ N.V./Canon Inc. in Venlo, where he was involved in public affairs, among other things. Since 2020, he has been working on the preservation and economic development of the historic family heritage Castle Mheer in the province of Limburg.
The King has a chamber lord in every province. Chamber lords support and advise in the preparation and execution of royal visits to their region. They represent the King at regional events such as a wedding anniversary or a funeral. Chamber lords are also involved in major events and receptions, such as Kings Day, Budget Day, New Years receptions, state visits, and regional visits. Additionally, they accompany new ambassadors who come to present their credentials to the King at Palace Noordeinde.
