His Majesty the King will be present on the morning of Saturday, January 24, at the event honoring the 25,000th wish of the Ambulance Wish Foundation in the Laurenskerk in Rotterdam.
Since 2007, the Ambulance Wish Foundation has offered seriously ill (terminal) and immobile patients the opportunity to submit a last wish. These can be big or small wishes, within the Netherlands and sometimes even across the border. The common thread is that people want to experience something one last time, visit a place once more, in the presence of family and friends. The foundation has ten specially built ambulances, and each wish is accompanied by a driver and a nurse.
So far, about 25,000 wishes have been fulfilled thanks to the efforts of more than three hundred volunteers, including drivers from the police, fire brigade, ambulance services, and defense, as well as nurses and doctors. The foundation arranges both transportation and the organization of the wish, so that the patient and family are fully relieved of concerns.
King Willem-Alexander will attend the plenary meeting and open a photo exhibition in the Laurenskerk. The exhibition shows some stories of wishes made possible by the Ambulance Wish Foundation. The King speaks with relatives about their experiences. Afterwards, he speaks with staff and volunteers of the foundation.
The public exhibition of the fulfilled wishes can be viewed in the Laurenskerk until mid-February.
