His Majesty the King will be present on Friday afternoon, February 27, at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam for the celebration of the hundredth anniversary of the Museum Association. The national trade organization for and of museums is committed to an attractive, diverse, and future-proof sector.

The King will attend the plenary program and engage in discussions with several museum directors about, among other things, the connection between museums and the outside world and the visitors of the future. The plenary program includes attention to the creation of the centennial cloth developed by artist Marcos Kueh at the TextileLab of the Textile Museum in Tilburg on the occasion of the anniversary. There is also an interview with author and former museum director Marjan Scharloo, who wrote the book ‘100 years Museum Association – a century intertwined’. The King will receive the first copies of the centennial cloth and the anniversary book. Afterwards, the ensemble ‘Club Classique’ will perform a piece composed by Dutch composer Henriëtte Bosmans in the founding year of the association. Spoken word artist Lin An Phoa will give a recital, concluding the plenary program.

The museum sector aims to provide as many people as possible access to the heritage and collections of the Netherlands. The Museum Association represents the joint interests of the more than five hundred affiliated museums in politics, to the public, and other stakeholders. Dutch museums are visited more than thirty million times annually. The Museum Association also includes the Museum Card Foundation, which issues the Museum Card. This card provides access to all museums that are members of the association.
