His Majesty the King paid a working visit on the morning of Thursday, January 15, to the General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD) in Zoetermeer. During the visit, King Willem-Alexander was informed about current developments in the field of national and international security and how the AIVD responds to these.
During an introduction by the Director-General and the Deputy Director-General of the AIVD, the role and tasks of the intelligence and security service in a changing world order were discussed. In the twilight zone between war and peace, the AIVD must counter sabotage, espionage, and digital attacks. Subsequently, King Willem-Alexander received presentations from various intelligence teams about the investigations they conduct, such as the investigation into radicalization. Attention was also given to the considerations and the legal framework within which the service operates. Finally, attention was paid to the use of technical means and their significance for protecting national security.
