His Majesty the King and Prime Minister Schoof attend the national commemoration of the capitulation of Japan on August 15, 1945. The commemoration takes place at the Indisch Monument in The Hague. The King will give a speech during the ceremony and lay the first wreath.
The Prime Minister, Secretary of State Tielen of Health, Welfare and Sport, and the chairpersons of the First and Second Chambers will also lay a wreath. At the end of the ceremony, King Willem-Alexander will open the parade along the Indisch Monument.
The capitulation of Japan eighty years ago marked the end of World War II. Thus, the entire Kingdom of the Netherlands was liberated on August 15, 1945. The National Commemoration Foundation August 15, 1945 organizes an annual commemoration for all victims of the Japanese occupation of the Dutch East Indies.
