Her Majesty Queen Máxima will pay a working visit to Enik Recovery College in Utrecht on the morning of Thursday, November 6. Enik Recovery College is a recovery academy for people with personal experience of disruption caused by mental vulnerability or addiction. The college offers a learning environment and meeting place.

Queen Máxima speaks with various participants and stakeholders at Enik. The first discussion focuses on how participants gain more control over their recovery. Afterwards, Queen Máxima joins a creative group where participants discover what occupies them by doing, rather than talking. She also visits the self-compassion workshop, about developing self-compassion and its role in life. The visit concludes with a discussion about policy, research, and developments at Enik Recovery College, which has now existed for 10 years.

At Enik, the restorative capacity and personal strength of people are central. Enik is run by experts with lived experience in psychiatry or addiction. Recovery based on equal experiences and reciprocity is the principle. People can sign up for workshops, series, retreats, and recovery workgroups. Groups work on recovery based on themes such as shame, loneliness, (self)stigma, and creativity. Many volunteers are active within Enik: at the reception, in the kitchen of the Trefpunt, and as co-facilitators alongside paid expert facilitators with lived experience.
