On Wednesday, December 17, Queen Máxima will attend the premiere of the film Glad You Paid at Theater Diligentia in The Hague. The film was created as teaching material for the financial education program Bank voor de Klas, an initiative of the Dutch Banking Association (NVB). It will be shown during an event for young people on the theme of financial health. This event is organized by the NVB, the platform Wijzer in geldzaken, and the Financially Healthy Netherlands Foundation (SFGN). Queen Máxima is honorary chair of Wijzer in geldzaken and SFGN.
In the twenty-minute film, young actors take viewers through the financial challenges young people often face, such as temptations, debts, the risks of buying now and paying later, financial crime, and the mental pressure of keeping up. The film was initiated by Rabobank and helps (guest) teachers as well as youth workers and parents to start conversations about financial health. The lessons of Bank voor de Klas are given throughout the year, especially during the annual Week of Money in March.
Upon arrival on the red carpet, co-presenter and influencer Défano Holwijn asks guests questions about their knowledge of financial health. After the opening speech by NVB chair Medy van der Laan, there is an interview with the filmmakers and the film is shown. The audience mainly consists of secondary school students from Elburg, Tilburg, and Zoetermeer.
After the presentation, there is a panel discussion with young people from the audience, the chair of Wijzer in geldzaken, and the director of SFGN about the themes addressed in the film.
Additionally, the approach to financial problems is discussed in a panel conversation between one of the young actors, a police officer, and a representative of Noordhoff Publishers. At the end of the program, Queen Máxima receives the new teaching package Bank voor de Klas, of which the film is a part.
The Financially Healthy Netherlands Foundation aims to reduce the number of households that are financially vulnerable or unhealthy by fifty percent by 2030. This is done, among other things, by promoting public-private cooperation to scale up effective debt assistance methods, early detection, making financial problems discussable, and the contribution of employers to the financial health of their employees and customers.
The platform Wijzer in geldzaken is an initiative of the Ministry of Finance in which partners from the financial sector, science, government, education, information, and consumer organizations join forces to prepare people for making financial choices, among other things with the annual Week of Money and the Pension3daagse.
