Her Majesty Queen Máxima, honorary chair of the MIND Us Foundation, and State Secretary Tielen of Youth, Prevention and Sport visit the municipality of Haarlem on Monday afternoon, November 3, as part of the Leading Locals network of MIND Us. Haarlem is one of eleven leading municipalities participating in the network. The working visit takes place at Haarlem College. During the visit, special attention is given to how Haarlem is committed to the mental health of young people and the role education can play in this.

Leading Locals is a learning network of MIND Us in which municipalities can exchange good practices on addressing mental health issues among young people in their city or town. This way, municipalities can inspire each other and work towards an integrated approach to support young people in their mental well-being. One of the principles is that young people are involved in policy development and implementation. The network started in November 2023 during a meeting at Noordeinde Palace. Previously, Queen Máxima visited the municipality of Hollands Kroon, the municipality of Leiden, and the municipality of Deventer

Queen Máxima and State Secretary Tielen attend part of the resilience session Stay Connected. This session is part of the Youz Nexdoor school program, which focuses on strengthening the mental resilience and social self-confidence of young people. Afterwards, Queen Máxima and the State Secretary engage in discussions with various stakeholders from the municipality, education, and science. The visit concludes with a Praatpower brainstorm. During this brainstorm, young people are invited to discuss mental well-being. The goal is to collect ideas for new solutions that will be translated into policy recommendations to strengthen the mental health of young people. Researchers from YoungXpert present the first results. Praatpower is commissioned by the Ministry of VWS in collaboration with various partners.
