Her Majesty Queen Máxima will open the 40th edition of Eurosonic Noorderslag (ESNS) on Wednesday evening, January 14, at De Oosterpoort in Groningen. ESNS is an independent platform that puts European musical talent in the global spotlight. ESNS offers European artists, with special attention to Dutch talent, the chance to break through and become the headliners of tomorrow.
Queen Máxima will attend the opening show featuring performances by the German theater duo Siegfried & Joy, the Ukrainian Alina Pash, the Dutch band Yin Yin, and singer Lia Kali from Spain. The opening show looks back on the past forty years with conversations, archive footage, and contributions from former Pop Award winners and European Commissioner Glenn Micallef.
The 40th edition of ESNS has the overarching theme Europe Calling: an urgent call for unity within Europe. With the manifesto, ESNS aims to start a movement that goes beyond national borders and individual successes. ESNS is fully committed to strengthening the European music industry and cultural identity, while also celebrating its rich history as a springboard for European and Dutch artists.
After Queen Máxima has opened the festivals anniversary edition, she will go to the Small Hall to attend the live show of Goldkimono. In the Inner Hall, she will see the performance of Dove Ellis, songwriter and performer from Ireland.
At the end of the visit, Queen Máxima will engage in conversation with artists who performed on the first day of Eurosonic 2026.
ESNS consists of two festivals, Eurosonic and Noorderslag, and Europe’s largest music conference. ESNS takes place from January 14 to 17 in Groningen.
