Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands will open a photo exhibition on Thursday afternoon, November 13, at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of the development organization Simavi. The exhibition consists of a series of portraits of women from Kenya and Indonesia, taken by photographer Sacha de Boer.

Princess Beatrix will open the photo exhibition and will subsequently receive a tour from Sacha de Boer. The photographer visited women and girls in Kenya and Indonesia who, with the support of Simavi, are working towards access to clean drinking water. In addition to the portraits by Sacha de Boer, historical photos from Simavi will also be on display at the private exhibition.

Worldwide, one in four people lacks access to clean drinking water, and two in five people lack access to a safe private toilet. In many households without access to water, women and girls are responsible for fetching water. They spend a lot of time on this, which they cannot dedicate to other things like education and work. Simavi works with partners on projects in Africa and Asia that ensure that women and girls have access to clean drinking water, toilets, and equal treatment. Princess Beatrix is the patroness of Simavi.
