Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet of the Netherlands will open the renovated muZIEum in Nijmegen on Thursday afternoon, February 5, 2026. During the reopening, the new photo exhibition Unseen will also be opened.
The muZIEum lets visitors experience what it is like to live with a visual impairment. The museum has been redesigned as one continuous sensory visitor route where seeing is not a given. Visitors discover step by step how other senses take over when sight is lost. With this approach, the muZIEum aims to contribute to awareness, inclusion, and accessibility. The photo exhibition Unseen makes art tangible, audible, and visible for everyone and shows that truly understanding art goes beyond just looking. The exhibition invites visitors to reflect on what is visible and what often goes unnoticed, offering different perspectives on seeing and experiencing.
The reopening of the muZIEum starts with a brief introduction and a lecture on the role of museums and inclusivity, followed by the official opening ceremony by Princess Margriet. Afterwards, Princess Margriet visits the photo exhibition, accompanied by an expert from the muZIEum and the involved photographers.
Princess Margriet is patroness of VISION 2020 Netherlands and in that capacity draws attention to reducing visual impairment through eye screening of risk groups.
