Her Royal Highness Princess Margriet of the Netherlands will open the World Championship in Driving on Wednesday evening, August 20, at the Riant Equestrian Centre in Beekbergen. During the championship, competitions will take place in driven dressage, a marathon with obstacles, and a skills test.
During the opening evening, the teams will be presented. After the opening ceremony by Princess Margriet, the Carriage and Riding Stable of the Royal Stables will showcase a selection of historical carriages, drawn by Friesian and KWPN horses in formal harness. Grooms and postilions from the stables will present a gala berlin, a gala coupe, and a blue Landauer. The Riant Equestrian Centre will subsequently show several performances featuring Gelderland, Friesian, and driving horses.
About 90 participants from 24 countries will take part in the World Championship. The Netherlands is represented by 7 participants.
Queen Beatrix, Prince Claus, Prince Willem-Alexander, Princess Margriet, and Mr. Van Vollenhoven attended the World Championship in Four-in-Hand in Apeldoorn in 1988.
