Her Royal Highness the Princess of Orange completed the General Military Training (AMO) on January 23 and was promoted to corporal. The AMO is part of the training she follows at Defensity College.
Now that she has completed the AMO, the Princess of Orange will wear a military uniform when working at the defense. She will continue her training and is currently connected as a working student to the Defense Staff.
Previously, His Majesty the King appointed the Princess by Royal Decree as of September 30, 2025, to the reserve personnel of the Armed Forces. She performs her duties unpaid and her study time is considered private.
Defensity College aims to offer students a meaningful part-time job during their studies and to increase visibility and connection between the armed forces and society. The program consists of various workplaces, activities, events, and training. It contributes to the personal, professional, and military development of the military working student.
There has traditionally been a close bond between the Armed Forces and the Royal House. William of Orange was a military leader; later kings had supreme authority. Since the 1983 constitution, supreme authority rests with the government. King Willem-Alexander fulfilled his military service with the Royal Navy; afterwards, he served with the Royal Army and the Royal Air Force. Within the Armed Forces, he holds a special position and military status as king.
