On January 8, the national campaign Learn about the Holocaust begins to raise awareness about the importance of Holocaust education. Remembering the Holocaust is crucial in Dutch society. Throughout January, efforts will focus on educating people about antisemitism, the Holocaust, and Jewish life in the Netherlands. The website leeroverdeholocaust.nl shows where you can learn about or commemorate the Holocaust in the coming period.
The campaign is initiated by the National Coordinator for Combating Antisemitism (NCAB) in partnership with the Anne Frank Foundation, Westerbork Memorial Center, Jewish Cultural Quarter, and several other organizations. The campaign is part of the National Plan Strengthening Holocaust Education and Strategy Combatting Antisemitism.
With the campaign and website, the participating organizations aim to reach a wide audience. It is everyones responsibility to keep the memory of the Holocaust alive. Therefore, learning about the Holocaust is encouraged in schools, cultural activities, sports clubs, and workplaces.
Eddo Verdoner (NCAB): “Holocaust education is vital to prevent antisemitism. It is important to increase knowledge about this dark chapter of our history. This knowledge strengthens our society.”
Teachers play a key role in Holocaust education, and each teacher deserves the best support. Thus, NCAB collaborates with the ministries of Education, Health, and Social Affairs to provide appropriate assistance tailored to the needs of educators.
Understanding and learning about the Holocaust benefits society as a whole. The website leeroverdeholocaust.nl offers resources and locations for everyone to explore this essential part of our history.
