This Call for proposals is open for interdisciplinary scientific research focused on the use of space infrastructure for vegetation research. It centers on utilizing various types of satellite data such as hyperspectral data, and in-situ data for research within the application areas of biodiversity and ecosystems. The deadline for submitting applications is May 7, 2026, before 14:00 CEST.
The first phase of this Call for proposals includes two consecutive preparatory workshops on February 13 and 27, 2026 aimed at promoting optimal networking around the theme and stimulating collaboration. The workshops provide an opportunity to combine ideas and form an innovative consortium, pooling strengths. Participation in both workshops is mandatory for the main applicant and strongly recommended for co-applicants, but not required.
The GO Program
This Call for proposals is part of the GO program, Use of Space Infrastructure for Earth Observation and Planetary Research. The overarching goal of the GO program is to support researchers working in the Netherlands in the substantial use of space infrastructure for high-quality scientific research. Within this objective, the GO program is open to scientific research in the fields of earth observation and planets (and other objects) within our solar system.
NWO invests in scientific infrastructure
This call is part of NWO’s efforts around scientific infrastructure. Together with its partners, NWO works on broad accessibility, renewal, and continuity of scientific infrastructure. This includes highly specialized devices, such as large telescopes or high-field magnets, but also digital infrastructures, such as scientific computer networks or supercomputers, and biobanks and data collections, such as data or sample collections. These types of facilities are essential for breakthroughs in all scientific fields.
Thanks to its independent position and overview of the science system, NWO can take the lead in developing a joint long-term strategy for scientific infrastructure. Additionally, NWO plays a coordinating and important (co-)financing role in implementing this strategy. The goal is a balanced and future-proof ecosystem of high-quality scientific infrastructure for all scientific domains.
