The full name of this call is: ‘Restoration of ecosystem functioning, integrity, and connectivity’. NWO is involved in this transnational call and invites researchers to form consortia. A total of 40 million euros is available.

The loss of ecosystems is a major problem. Since ecosystems cross borders, transnational research on ecosystem restoration is important. Effective restoration of ecosystems requires insights from ecology, technology, economics, and culture. Therefore, this call encourages interdisciplinary research. 

Themes

Projects may relate to one or more of the following themes:

  • Establishing restoration goals and measuring success
  • Scalability and transferability of nature restoration efforts
  • Long-term sustainability of restoration efforts

The call relates to restoration measures in all types of ecosystems and habitats, in all regions of the world, including the Caribbean.

To participate, consortia must consist of partners from at least 3 of the participating countries. On the Biodiversa+ website, you can find out which countries are participating and search for partners using the partner search tool.

Budget and deadlines

This call is a collaboration of more than 30 countries. A total of 40 million is available. On behalf of NWO, 3 million is available. A maximum of 325,000 euros can be requested per project.

The deadline for submitting the mandatory pre-registration is November 7, 2025, 12:00 CET.
