The European partnership One Health Antimicrobial Resistance (OH AMR) has just opened its first call. A total of 28 million euros has been made available for research on antimicrobial resistance in humans, animals, and the environment.
Resistant bacteria and fungi are responsible for an increasing number of difficult-to-treat infections, higher mortality rates, and lower food productivity. Incorrect use of antibiotics, such as poor adherence to prescriptions and overuse, are among the main causes of AMR and pose a risk to the effectiveness of these medicines.
The goal of this first OHAMR call is to improve success rates for the treatment of bacterial and fungal infections through new treatments and to reduce the risk of resistance. This call focuses on 3 topics:
- Identifying and developing new combination therapies using existing or innovative antimicrobial agents or antimicrobial agents combined with additional treatments to increase drug efficacy and counter resistance.
- Developing tools and methods to improve adherence to treatment protocols.
- Assessing the impact of antimicrobial agents used in veterinary medicine and agriculture on the risk of AMR transfer to humans and the environment, to develop policies limiting certain antimicrobials for human use.
Consortium
Researchers must form a consortium with at least three and up to six partners from different participating countries. On November 26, 2025, from 14:00 to 16:00, an online webinar will take place where a tool to find international partners will also be presented. Registration for the webinar can be done on the OHAMR website. There you will also find the list of participating countries.
Budget and Deadlines
A total of 28 million euros is available, with two million euros from NWO. A maximum of 400,000 euros can be requested per project. Applications are not submitted via ISAAC but via the OHAMR website. For more information, contact ohamr@nwo.nl.
- The deadline for pre-registrations is February 2, 2026, 13:00 CET
- The deadline for full applications is June 17, 2026, 13:00 CEST
About European Partnerships
The European co-funded partnerships are part of Horizon Europe, the European research and innovation program (2021-2027). The partnerships focus on complex societal challenges and aim for real impact. The calls arising from the European partnerships lead to thematic research.
