A new call within the European Partnership ERA4Health, to which NWO contributes, is now open for pre-registrations. PREVENT-OO: Understanding and Preventing Overweight and Obesity focuses on funding international, transdisciplinary consortia researching the underlying causes of overweight and obesity. NWO makes 2,500,000 euros available for Dutch researchers.
Overweight and obesity are major risk factors for various diseases such as diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases. More research into the underlying mechanisms of overweight and obesity can help realize holistic approaches that enable people to live healthier lives. This call funds transdisciplinary research consortia that collaborate with researchers from multiple European countries on this topic. Specifically, this call focuses on two sub-themes:
- Understanding the causes of obesity and overweight and their complications through mechanistic research
- Prevention and public health strategies for critical transition periods in life

Budget
NWO makes 2,500,000 euros available for Dutch researchers. A maximum of 400,000 euros can be requested per project. Only projects focused on sub-theme 1 are eligible for funding from NWO.

Era4Health organizes an online webinar for this call on November 18, 2025. Participants will receive more information about the call, the registration process, conditions, and can ask questions. Registration is possible via the Era4Health website.
Submitting a pre-registration is mandatory to be able to submit a full application. The template for this can be found on the Era4Health website. Submission of an application is not done via ISAAC but via the Era4Health website.
