On April 9, NWO was present at the CGIAR Science Week in Nairobi, Kenya to present the NL-CGIAR program. This focused on the importance of CGIAR partnerships and best practices for such collaborations. All sessions from the Science Week can now be viewed on YouTube.
NWO was present at the CGIAR Science Week as the coordinator of the NL-CGIAR research program, which is part of the partnership between CGIAR and the Dutch government. During a session, both NWO and CABI presented their version of a CGIAR partnership. CABI explained the UK-CGIAR Centre, a partnership inspired by the success of the first phase of the NL-CGIAR program.
CGIAR, the world’s largest research partnership for a food-secure future, collaborates globally with various governments and public organizations. By engaging in discussions about the design of these partnerships, international research institutions can learn from each other and exchange ideas and views.
During the session, the Senior Expert Program and the previous and the current thematic research programs of the partnership were discussed. It was emphasized that it is important to bring together people with diverse expertise who can complement each other. There must also be space in partnerships to work with local partners to find solutions to practical problems. Finally, attention was drawn to the importance of innovation and opportunities in agriculture for young people and the development of the talents of young researchers.

About the NL-CGIAR Research Program
The NL-CGIAR program is part of the partnership between the Dutch government and CGIAR and focuses on promoting knowledge, knowledge utilization, and innovation for global food and nutrition security. This is achieved by strengthening collaboration between CGIAR and Dutch research and knowledge institutions, and their joint efforts with National Agricultural Research and Extension Services (NARES), civil society organizations, the private sector, and government organizations.
The NL-CGIAR research program is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is implemented by NWO. In the implementation of the program, NWO works closely with CGIAR and the Netherlands Food Partnership, and NWO coordinates matters with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and that of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security, and Nature.
