For the sixth time, the NWO domain of Exact and Natural Sciences will award five prizes in areas such as societal impact, diversity & inclusion, team science, and communication. From now on, you can nominate researchers who excel in these areas for one of the five special prizes. Who will you nominate for an NWO Domain Science award in 2025?
Since 2020, the NWO Domain Science awards have been granted to exact and natural scientists at all levels who make extra efforts for societal impact, team science, diversity, or communication in their research. Winners receive a cash prize, which NWO hopes will help them continue their initiatives and achieve their goals. The five awards are:
Athena Award
The Athena Award is for outstanding female researchers who serve as role models for others.

The Communication Initiative Award rewards researchers for effective science communication initiatives to a broader audience.

The Diversity & Inclusion Initiative Award is for (small-scale) initiatives that increase workplace diversity within the field.

The Team Science Award rewards the most inspiring and successful team of researchers from different disciplines who jointly tackle a scientific challenge, with their individual strengths and expertise demonstrably reinforcing each other.

The Nomination Process
Researchers at all levels can be nominated, and anyone can submit a nomination. The nomination conditions can be found in the brochures via the buttons above. The brochures list all the requirements a candidate must meet to be eligible for a prize, and the criteria on which the winner is selected. Note: the conditions differ per prize. Using a short nomination form with instructions, you can explain why this researcher or team deserves the prize. All Exact and Natural Sciences (related) research can participate, both large and small. Nominations can be submitted until June 12, 2025, 14:00 hrs. Who will you nominate?
