Talented, creative, and newly graduated researchers can now submit an application for a Veni grant. This funding instrument from the NWO Talent Program offers personal funding. They can further develop their own research idea for three years. The funding amounts to a maximum of 320,000 euros.
Veni in brief
Veni targets newly graduated researchers. Researchers eligible for a Veni grant have academic qualities that clearly exceed what is usual. The Veni grant is intended to finance scientifically innovative research and thereby give these researchers the opportunity to develop as independent researchers. The funding amounts to a maximum of 320,000 euros.
Who can apply
Applications can be submitted by PhD researchers with a permanent or temporary employment contract, from both home and abroad. The Veni round of 2025 is open to researchers with a graduation date after January 1, 2022, and before September 2, 2025.
Mandatory pre-registration phase
Applicants must submit a pre-registration to be eligible for a Veni. The pre-registration will be assessed on quality of the researcher (100%). If a positive decision follows on the pre-registration, the applicant will be invited to submit a full application. If a negative decision follows on the pre-registration, the applicant cannot submit a full application. The full application will be assessed on Quality and innovative character of the research proposal (75%) and Scientific and/or societal impact (25%)

Prepare well for submitting a Veni application
To prepare a Veni application, it is important that you download the most recent forms from the website. You must use the Veni pre-registration form and the embedding guarantee form for round 2025. Additionally, it is important that you carefully review the call for proposals.
NWO has recently updated the instructions for writing an EBCV. The updated instructions can be found in the application form for the Veni. We would also like to draw your attention to the existence of an international digital platform to support the writing of CVs in narrative style (PEP-CV).
At the ENW domain, a pilot will be conducted in the Veni 2025: the scope of the research idea will be expanded in the pre-registration. The other main changes in the call for proposals 2025 compared to the previous Veni call are mentioned at the beginning of the call for proposals.
The Veni round 2025 has nine portals within the four domains of NWO. Check the funding page of the domain for the specification of the portals.
