NWO and Holland High Tech (the top sector High Tech Systems and Materials) are jointly developing this new KIC call focused on applied and fundamental research on semiconductors and quantum technologies. The call is expected to open in January 2026.
About the call
The Netherlands holds a strong position in both semiconductor technologies and quantum technologies. To maintain and strengthen this position, NWO and Holland High Tech aim to stimulate research on these key technologies. Specifically, the call requests semiconductor research that offers heterogeneous development solutions in photonics-electronics and electronics-electronics and advanced packaging. Regarding quantum, this call requests research focused on increasing knowledge about the manufacturing and scaling up of quantum systems. Researchers are specifically invited to form consortia with researchers from various institutes (university, HBO, and TO2 institutions), companies, and other societal organizations. Such collaborations can increase the chances of applying the developed knowledge.
Matchmaking
To support consortium formation, NWO is organizing a matchmaking meeting on March 2, 2026. Interested parties can get acquainted and exchange research ideas here. Moreover, more information will be provided about the call conditions and the submission process. More information about matchmaking will follow upon the call opening.
NWO-KIC: innovation programs in the knowledge and innovation covenant
NWO develops innovation programs focused on the societal challenges of the Netherlands with the goal of creating impact for the economy, people, and society. These programs emphasize collaboration between knowledge institutions, private parties, and government. The results thus contribute to realizing economic opportunities. It is therefore essential that private parties invest in each research project.
Disclaimer
This message is a pre-announcement of a research program by NWO. The possibility to apply for funding will open after the publication of a call for proposals in the Staatscourant.
