They have experienced moments that as a parent you never hope to experience and live with worries about their children that they should have been spared, the public prosecutor introduced her sentence demand on Monday against the man who first came to the attention of the police on September 13, 2024. There was a report of a minor girl who was allegedly abused by the man some time ago. The police seized the mans phone, after which the suspicions accumulated. The man was arrested on September 18 and has been in custody since.

Extensive police investigation

This marked the start of an extensive police investigation. Phones and computers were examined, the man was interviewed, and victims gave statements. It became clear that the abuse took place at school and at several babysitting addresses. The suspect committed indecent acts with the girls, also touched his genitals, and in one case encouraged two children to touch each other. The man made images of the abuse and was also guilty of making and possessing child pornography. There is no indication that he distributed the images.

Abuse of trust

During the investigation, the man confessed to committing these sexual offenses. Serious is the duration and scope of the case: the abuse took place over a period of ten years, hundreds of times, involving 20 young children. Innocent children who were so young that they had no idea what they were victims of, said the public prosecutor. According to the OM, it is especially reprehensible that the man abused the trust placed in him: Their children were entrusted to him as a babysitter or teacher, he was allowed to care for them, put them to bed, read to them before sleeping, he was allowed to teach them to count. He could have been a key figure in their lives in a very positive way, but instead subjected them to traumatic events.

Disorders

The suspect has since been extensively examined by behavioral experts. It appears that the abuse was planned and calculating in nature. At the same time, the OM follows the psychiatrists conclusion, who among other things diagnosed a pedophilic disorder. According to the public prosecutor, it is clear that the man needs intensive clinical treatment and that, to protect society, a TBS measure must be imposed. The public prosecutor: In this case, we cannot afford any risk; we must have done everything to prevent new victims.

Boundless

The seriousness of the facts cannot be doubted, the public prosecutor noted during sentencing considerations: The suspect kept going a step further. From tickling over the clothes, to on the underwear, to in the underwear. For some a handful of times, for others more than 50 times, depending on how far he could go. He also became increasingly boundless and took bigger risks. From the privacy of a babysitting address to the middle of the math classroom, where other children could see how he sat a girl on his lap and put his hand in her underwear. The question is where this would have ended if he had not been stopped by a few brave children, parents, police, and justice.

Considering all facts and circumstances, the OM demands a prison sentence of 15 years and TBS with forced treatment in this case. The judge will rule on February 13.
