An 80-year-old man from Assen remains in pre-trial detention for fourteen days. This was decided today by the examining magistrate of the court in Northern Netherlands. He is suspected of murder or manslaughter of his 72-year-old female partner. The man has since confessed to being involved in the fatal offense.
The woman was found on August 25, 2025, in the Noord-Willemskanaal near Tynaarlo. The suspect was arrested on the same day. After the discovery of the fatal victim, the police in Northern Netherlands launched an investigation. This included a search of a residence on Thorbeckelaan in Assen. The investigation is ongoing.
