A 46-year-old civil servant from the municipality of Amsterdam was arrested on Monday by the National Criminal Investigation Department on suspicion of corruption and complicity in causing explosions and other serious violent incidents. He is suspected of having searched for addresses in municipal systems at the request of others over a prolonged period. Explosions or other violent incidents subsequently occurred at those addresses.
In his role as an administrative employee, the suspect had access to several systems, including the Basic Registration of Persons. This allows access to the address and personal data of Dutch citizens. The suspicion is that the man, likely for payment, searched for specific addresses throughout the Netherlands for criminal contacts and passed that information on to them. Explosions or other violent incidents subsequently occurred at those addresses. It is suspected that the suspect must have known that the information he provided was being used by others to commit serious crimes. Therefore, he is also suspected of complicity in these crimes.
The suspect is under restrictions, meaning he may only have contact with his lawyer. He will be presented to the examining magistrate on Thursday, May 15. The investigation by the National Criminal Investigation Department is led by the National Office of the Public Prosecution Service.
