The Ministry of Finance posted an explanatory video on social media on June 12, 2023, which received several discriminatory responses. These were directed at the employee who provided the explanation in the video. The responses became so severe that the ministry ultimately decided to remove the video.

One of the responses could be traced back to the 65-year-old man from The Hague. He wrote under the video: to make it clear to people of color that they cannot handle money, Sigrid Kaag places a person of color to reach the target audience. According to the Public Prosecution Service, the man has deliberately insulted a group of people based on race. He was fined 300 euros during a Public Prosecution Service hearing.
