The Public Prosecution Service demands 4 years in prison against a 43-year-old man from The Hague for setting fire to a residence on Chicagostraat in The Hague on October 7, 2024. According to the prosecutor, the man is clearly visible on camera footage and there is DNA evidence.
On October 7, 2024, two men on a scooter set fire to the facade of a house on Chicagostraat in The Hague at 4:50 AM. The video doorbell of the residence captured clear footage of the person pouring a flammable liquid over the door and the doormat. Two police officers believed they recognized the suspect.
A cap was also found in the street, which the suspect was still wearing in the video footage. DNA from two men was found on it, including that of the suspect.
Suspect Denies
The suspect has always denied being the person in the footage; he claims he did not start the fire. However, according to the Public Prosecution Service, there is sufficient evidence, and the prosecutor demanded 4 years in prison against the suspect on Tuesday. The court will deliver its verdict in two weeks.
The man from the second DNA trace has also been arrested as a suspect. He is currently free, as his pre-trial detention has been suspended by the court. The investigation in his case is still ongoing.
