Today, the Public Prosecution Service demanded 20 years imprisonment against a 62-year-old man from Oss for killing his 84-year-old mother. A conflict over money appears to have been the cause of the terrible act in the apartment complex at Beethovengaarde in Oss.
When a family member of the woman cannot reach her and becomes concerned, the police visit the victims apartment in Oss on August 16, 2024. Inside, officers find her and it quickly becomes clear she died from stab wounds.
Extensive searches for evidence are conducted in the home. Successfully, blood is found that does not belong to the victim. DNA analysis reveals it is the blood of the womans son. The suspect is arrested.
Transfers
Investigators discover that shortly before the victims death, large sums of money were transferred from the joint account she held with her son, and the victim did not agree with this. Chat messages also show that the suspect repeatedly asked for money to buy, for example, a car, but the victim refused. It also becomes clear that after the act, the suspect tried to open the safe in his mothers home. This was unsuccessful. According to the public prosecutor, the suspect planned his act and had several opportunities to choose a different path. The public prosecutor considers this case to be murder.
No disorder diagnosed
The suspect claims he acted in a haze and that stopping antidepressants led to killing his mother. He is observed at the Pieter Baan Center. However, no disorder that could explain his act is found. Even if the suspect stopped taking medication weeks before his mothers death, this does not seem to have played a role during the crime, according to investigators. The Public Prosecution Service therefore considers the suspect fully accountable.
Long prison sentence
According to the public prosecutor, a long prison sentence is the only appropriate measure. “The bond between a parent and child, especially a mother and her child, is usually the first, unique, and lifelong bond every person forms. A bond that, especially as years pass, is not always easy. But one wonders how it could ever come to the point that you violently take the life of your own mother.”
The judge is expected to give a verdict in two weeks.
