On the same day, an 18-year-old local resident of this man was also arrested. This young man was heard, after which the police and the Public Prosecution Service (OM) decided to release him. He remains a suspect in the investigation.
Remains a suspect
A 36-year-old man from Alkmaar may also await this investigation in freedom. He was arrested on April 15 and was in pre-trial detention. The prosecutors saw no reason to keep him in custody longer. He also remains a suspect in the investigation.
Public Hearing
Currently, seven individuals are designated as suspects in this case. Four of the seven are still in custody. The court will consider the possible extension of the pre-trial detention of three of these suspects in a public hearing on May 9, 2025. At that hearing in Assen, the OM will provide an update on the investigation.
Priority
The search for the Romanian art treasures does not stop and is still ongoing. The pursuit of them remains a priority for the police and the OM.
