The council chamber of the court in Northern Netherlands has decided that a 20-year-old man from Heerhugowaard will remain in pre-trial detention for ninety more days. He is suspected of involvement in the art heist from the Drents Museum on January 25, 2025. Four very valuable Romanian art treasures were stolen during this heist.
The Public Prosecution Service has decided that a 26-year-old man from Heerhugowaard no longer needs to remain in pre-trial detention. The man has been released. This person is still a suspect in the case. He was not involved in the execution of the art heist in the museum but had a supporting role in the eyes of the Public Prosecution Service.
On May 9, 2025, the court in Assen will discuss in a public session the extension of the pre-trial detention of two other suspects. These are two men aged 35 and 36 from Heerhugowaard. In that session, the Public Prosecution Service will provide an update on the investigation.
