A 36-year-old man from Alkmaar will remain in custody for another two weeks due to his involvement in the art heist from the Drents Museum in Assen. This was decided by the examining magistrate of the court in Northern Netherlands.
The man was arrested on April 15, 2025, in his hometown.
Data Carriers
The man is not the person in the footage from a hardware store in Assen, but emerged during the investigation. A search was conducted at his home where digital data carriers were seized.
Ongoing Investigation
The investigation into the art heist is still ongoing. Earlier, this investigation already led to the arrests of four other suspects, three of whom are still in custody.
Status Update
On May 9, 2025, a first preparatory public hearing will take place in the case of the detained suspects at the court in Assen. There, the court will decide on possibly extending the pre-trial detention of these individuals. The Public Prosecution Service in Northern Netherlands will also provide a status update on the investigation.
