The Weg van de Toekomst (N329) in Oss needs to be safer. Therefore, those who speed or run red lights will now receive fines. Today, the Public Prosecution Service is activating three new speed cameras that will operate day and night. The municipality of Oss, the police, and the Public Prosecution Service expect that drivers will adjust their behavior and that traffic safety will improve.
The three fixed speed cameras enforce violations of the speed limit and running red lights. The cameras are located along the Weg van de Toekomst, also known as the Megensebaan (N329), at the intersections with Gasstraat-Oost, Berghemseweg, and Kanaalstraat. The speed limit on this busy road is 70 km/h and tens of thousands of cars pass daily.
Danger from speeding and running red lights
The speed cameras are necessary because there is a lot of speeding on the Weg van de Toekomst. This happens during the day but also at night. Moreover, red light violations regularly occur at the three intersections. This creates dangerous situations, resulting in too many accidents. Visitors to the industrial area and sports facilities cross the Weg van de Toekomst, and it must be safe.
24 hours a day
It has been proven that a speed camera positively affects driving behavior and contributes to traffic safety. Behavior improves along an entire stretch, not just at the camera location. The three speed cameras were installed in mid-October and tested in the past period. From 26 November 2025, all violators will receive fines. The cameras operate 24 hours a day and violations are immediately forwarded to the CJIB. After about three years, it will be assessed whether the traffic situation has improved. The Public Prosecution Service will then decide, after consultation with the police and municipality, whether enforcement with speed cameras remains necessary.
