On March 30, during a parade celebrating 80 years of liberation in Winterswijk, a pole with a heavy sound installation fell over. Three women were seriously injured. The installation fell because a cable was pulled by a tall vehicle. The cause of the incident has been investigated. It was an accident, according to the conclusion of the Public Prosecution Service.
The cable stretched over the road was at a height that normally any truck can pass under. The company that had stretched the cable also tested this by driving a truck underneath it. However, the low-loader with the Sherman tank and onboard artillery turned out to be just a bit taller.
To prove serious bodily injury due to negligence, there must be significant carelessness. According to the Public Prosecution Service, this cannot be demonstrated here. No criminal prosecution will be initiated. The parties involved have been informed of this decision.
