The Public Prosecution Service demands a prison sentence against a 21-year-old man from Leiden who is suspected of being involved in a home invasion.
A couple and their son experienced the fright of their lives in the summer of 2023 when three men wearing balaclavas broke into their home on Vinkenweg in Rijnsburg in the middle of the night. The residents were threatened and assaulted. The mother and son were tied up with zip ties. The father was hit in the head and had to be treated in the hospital.
The robbers searched the house for money or a safe, but nothing was found. After a few minutes, the perpetrators decided to flee, leaving the family in shock.
Intensive Investigation
Despite intensive investigation by the detectives, the police were in the dark for a long time about the possible group of perpetrators behind the brazen home invasion. However, that changed when on March 6, 2024, information came in to the Criminal Intelligence Team of the police. Names were mentioned and a suspect was arrested.
The 21-year-old man made a partial confession and claimed to have played a role in the invasion. He stated that he drove to the house with others. He also bought gloves and zip ties, which were used in the invasion. He waited by the house in a stolen car until the accomplices returned. According to the Public Prosecution Service, it is clear that the suspect worked closely with his accomplices in the lead-up to and during the execution of the brazen home invasion. There was also a close and conscious collaboration.
“In a brazen manner, the perpetrators went on a rampage and endangered the couple and their son. All in the hope of finding a large sum of money. But they came home empty-handed. There was nothing to take. No money, no safe.”
Demand
The Public Prosecution Service demands a prison sentence of 40 months, of which 10 months are conditional, during which the suspect must comply with the conditions of probation.
