A 28-year-old man was fatally stabbed at Marconiplein on the night of May 12, 2024. The Public Prosecution Service demands 18 years of imprisonment.
On that fateful day, around six in the morning, the police received a report of a resuscitation at Marconiplein. It soon became clear that the victim had stab wounds in his left leg and side. The resuscitation efforts were in vain. The victim died from his injuries. The police launched an investigation.
Camera footage shows a confrontation occurring between the suspect and the victim at Marconiplein around 04:45. The suspect then walked to his parents house. Less than half an hour later, the suspect left the house again to return to Marconiplein. There, things went horribly wrong. The victim died from multiple stab wounds. The suspect even filmed the lifeless victim and kicked the body. A day later, the suspect was arrested in a house in Dordrecht.
Premeditation
According to the Public Prosecution Service, this is a case of premeditation and thus murder. The suspect had multiple moments to reflect on the decision to harm the victim. He had several opportunities to think about the meaning and consequences of his intended act.
After the suspect and victim saw each other for the first time, he recorded an audio file. In it, he says among other things, “I stabbed him right away, brother. I have such a fucking machete on my hip, brother. When the suspect returns to Marconiplein, the victim is checked by the police. The suspect thinks that the victim is being taken away by the officers and records a video in which he says: “He is lucky, mate. I have a fucking big knife with me, brother.” But the victim is not taken away. And he certainly does not have any luck.
Future Denied
The suspect remained silent during all police interrogations. Only during the trial did he claim that he was actually attacked by the victim and that he had to defend himself. During his stay in the Pieter Baan Centrum, the suspect did not cooperate with the investigation. Nevertheless, researchers were able to establish that the suspect meets the criteria for antisocial personality disorder. Experts could not determine whether this disorder influenced the suspects behavior at the time of the alleged offense. The Public Prosecution Service believes that the disorder affects the suspects behavior. Therefore, the murder should be attributed to the suspect to a somewhat lesser degree.
The public prosecutor: “The suspect has taken away the most precious thing a person possesses, life. Besides denying the young victim his future, he has also caused immense grief to his family and friends. Considering everything, I believe that the nature and seriousness of the offense is such that only a lengthy custodial sentence can be considered.”
