The Public Prosecution Service has demanded a 16-month prison sentence against a 36-year-old man from Rotterdam suspected of sending over 900 grams of Crystal Meth by post to abroad. The drugs were hidden in a teddy bear among other items. The man was arrested in a HARP investigation, Hit and Run Postal Team.
On April 5, 2025, a package en route to New Zealand was intercepted by Customs. The package contained various goods, including a teddy bear and a scarf. Customs investigation revealed that Crystal Meth was hidden in the goods. Surveillance footage led the police to the suspect, who was arrested on July 29, 2025. In his home, alongside a receipt for the goods, 620 grams of Crystal Meth were found.
According to the Public Prosecution Service, the suspect has been an essential link in the international drug chain and has contributed to maintaining the chain of criminal undermining activities.
Can
In another HARP investigation, the Public Prosecution Service demanded a 48-month prison sentence against a 45-year-old woman from Rijswijk suspected of possession and export of hard drugs.
The case began when a package was intercepted by Customs on August 28, 2024, at a postal center in The Hague. The package contained a can with a bag of approximately 60 grams of MDMA hidden inside. The drugs were en route to New Zealand.
Multiple Packages
In the HARP investigation, the suspect emerged. The woman had sent multiple packages containing narcotics over a period of seven months. Various types of hard drugs were found in the packages. The drugs were en route to different countries, including Australia, Czech Republic, India, and Paraguay.
On the day of the arrest, her home was also searched, and about 12 kilograms of hard drugs and a large quantity of medicines were found. The other resident of the house, a 40-year-old man from Rijswijk, was also arrested for possession of these hard drugs and medicines. The Public Prosecution Service demanded a 36-month prison sentence against him.
HARP
The HARP is a collaboration between the police, Customs, and the Public Prosecution Service. The team focuses on detecting and prosecuting criminals who send drugs by post to abroad. This approach makes it more difficult for criminals to send drugs by post to other countries. The establishment of HARP contributes to the fight against undermining crime.
